Tips on Choosing a Fort Worth Moving Company

Many Fort Worth moving companies advertise comprehensive service including packing, carting and transporting. A quick look into any of the Fort Worth Metro phone books will show you pages upon pages of Fort Worth movers. How is a person suppose to go about choosing one moving company from another? Especially when some moving companies have been caught giving out false addresses and lying about their insurance coverage (or lack of)!

There are several places you can begin to research a Fort Worth moving company. Most people would think to search the Better Business Bureau. I’ll say this about the BBB. The BBB is in the business of taking money from businesses. The BBB has done a good job of branding itself as a consumer protection organization. That’s not quite true. Let’s just say there are better organizations to trust than the BBB.

One place you should visit is a website called Angies List. This is an organization that has reviews of local companies. But the reviews do not come from Angies List, it comes from the local Members of Angies List. You can see if there’s an Angies List for you area by going to www.angieslist.com.

Another place to look up local or national movers is the American Movers and Storage Association. Moving companies are required to abide by the published tariff and arbitration procedure of the Association.

Before selecting a single Fort Worth moving company, stop by their offices and have a look at their garage and storage area if they have one. Although clean vehicles and clean movers do not make an honest company, it’s a start.

When you finally decide on several Fort Worth movers ask them to send out representatives to your place to give a firm and binding price quote for moving. If you want the company to pack and/or store items, make sure you get a price quote for that as well.

The factors that are considered for pricing include charges for labor and truck. This can be either a set charge or in some cases, an hourly charge for local moves. Other cost to consider are the packaging materials, which some, not all, Fort Worth movers provide.

Beware of hidden travel charges. Some moving companies in Fort Worth will charge an hourly charge for driving from their Garage to your home. Also, be aware that movers of good moving companies aren’t allowed to take a break at the customer’s cost. Keep a close eye on this. Although not required by reputed movers, it is preferable to give a tip if you are satisfied with the work. Some smaller Fort Worth movers will try to add this into your cost.

Make sure that the mover gives you an exact list of items to be moved and transported. You should check the list and make sure everything has been loaded and endorse the list.

Just as important is to know about insurance and the damage compensation policy of any Fort Worth moving company you select. Insurance for the full replacement cost of valuables is always a wise decision and the coverage should be effective from the start of packing until final setup.

Always ask for a copy of the movers insurance. Follow up by contacting the insurance carrier and actually verifing the company has the insurance and in the amounts it advertises.

A good Fort Worth moving company isn’t hard to find, you just need to do your homework before hiring one!
